Can I Lay Gym Rubber Flooring Over Carpet or other Flooring?
Getting Gym rubber flooring for home gym flooring is getting popular. One common question after choosing the right gym floor will be. “Can I put this on top of carpet?” or “Can I overlay it on other flooring?”
To be laying your gym floor, you need your flooring to be levelled. This is the reason why before every installation for any commercial gym. We need to do a cement screed and self-levelling. This is to create an even floor making it safe for user. Thus, to be able to overlay on top of flooring such as LVP floor and tiles if the floor is even.
Can I lay Gym rubber flooring on carpet?
There are 2 major different types of carpet pile in Singapore. Cut Pile and Loop Pile Carpet. Cut pile is softer and wavier as compare to loop pile. Loop Pile carpet is a firmer ground to step on it is a loop for flooring. To be able to lay gym rubber flooring on carpet, only loop pile carpet is recommended.
Why I cannot overlay my Gym rubber floor on cut pile carpet?
The texture of cut pile carpet is soft and dense. It is so soft that if you vacuum over, there will be tracks of vacuum over the carpet. Therefore, to lay your gym rubber flooring on top of the cut pile will press the carpet unevenly. Due to direct contact, rubber flooring will become uneven. This will make a very unsafe flooring. Imagine you doing deadlift, pulling up the bar. Miss a step because of uneven flooring.
While loop pile carpet is firmer due to it being a loop on the pile. This results in a more even flooring. Although more works such as addition of plywood as an underlay is recommended.
