Loop Pile carpets are generally more favoured in commercial carpet tiles in Singapore as there are many advantages with loop pile.

Reason to consider the loop pile:

  • Durability: It is more durable as a carpet pile because of the uncut loop. The uncut loop making it more resistant to flattening. This Is due to the ability to keep it shape. Loop pile due to it uncut loop making it resistant to wear and tear and matting.

However also because of its uncut loops, it is prone to snagging on to sharp objects such pet claws. Due to its coarse texture, it doesn’t have the plush feeling making it less appealing in a more formal situation.

Properties of Cut Pile Carpet Flooring:

Cut pile carpets are generally favoured in hotels and residential floors in Singapore. This is because of its plush and soft texture. The texture is cause by the exposed fibre from the loop that is snipped into half.

Reason to consider Cut Pile can be many;

  • Aesthetic and texture: When we think about carpet, it is usually the soft luxurious feeling because of the fibre. Cut Pile carpet due to its soft texture has aesthetic that is timeless and elegant making it easy to be mixed in various designs.

  • Snag resistant: Due to its open-ended nature of the pile, snag will be minimized. Thus, it is also safer for pets as well. As pet claws will not get caught in between the pile.

  • Better insulation: Due to the dense, plush fibres which effectively absorb sound waves. Resulting in better noise insulation from footsteps and insulation. It is also a better insulation as it traps air with the fibre. Making it perfect for heat regulation

Although with many good properties, there are a few disadvantages of cut pile. Dust and stains may get deep into fibres, making it hard to clean. This is due to an open ended on one side of the pile, cut pile carpet will have a track mark on the carpet.
