EPDM Rubber Flooring vs Gym Rubber flooring

EPDM Rubber Flooring vs Gym Rubber flooring

TLDR version: Gym rubber flooring uses EPDM as a primary material. EPDM rubber flooring is better for outdoor use and is more permanent installation than gym rubber floor.

You have done a bit of research. From our website, you have read EPDM Rubber Flooring and  Gym Rubber Flooring. So you are now thinking, what is the difference? Isn’t the 2 flooring Tomato/Tomato? Are they not both rubber floorings?

Gym Rubber Flooring:

Indoor gyms primarily use gym rubber flooring. It has many great features. This includes good sound and shock insulation stops noise from moving through walls and floors. Our gym rubber flooring, GymFlexx, made of EPDM rubber and SBR rubber. They bind different layers of rubber with synthetic rubber and EPDM. EPDM improves tile color and extends the life of gym rubber flooring. This makes it superior to regular recycled rubber.

Gym Rubber Flooring installation:

Gymflexx installs rubber flooring in 2 ways. The method depends on the type of flooring.

Gymflexx Tough: Rubber Roll. To install, unroll the rubber flooring and glue the bottom. This keeps it from slipping.

Gymflexx Rubber Tile is installed by cutting the rubber tile to fit and held securely by the plastic connector and the fitting of the room.

EPDM Rubber Flooring:

EPDM rubber flooring is more commonly used for outdoor applications. Usually used for playground flooring and track and field. It can come in mulch and granules, making the rubber flooring customizable. It has many great features. It is shock absorbent. It resists color fading and heat

EPDM Rubber Flooring installation:

EPDM rubber flooring typically has a bottom layer of SBR and a top layer of EPDM rubber that is 10-15 mm thick. SBR rubber is recycled. It makes EPDM rubber flooring cheaper. Plus, it improves shock absorption in the flooring.

So workers install EPDM by first applying primer on the floor. SBR is mixed with the primer. Then SBR is spread on the floor. After SBR is cured overnight, Repeat the whole process. This time round, mix EPDM instead of SBR.

When Do I Use EPDM Rubber Flooring or Gym Rubber Flooring?

Gym rubber flooring is mainly for indoor spaces, like home and commercial gyms. This is due to minimal or even a lack of adhesive required to keep the flooring secure. This makes it easy to take out and replace rubber flooring without damaging the subfloor. It is also easy to install the gym rubber floor for the same reason. The gym rubber flooring is secure because it fits tightly with the rubber walls for support.

EPDM rubber flooring is mainly for outdoor use. You’ll find it in places like playgrounds and track and field areas. EPDM rubber flooring is more permanent flooring compared to gym rubber flooring. This is due to the use of adhesive and primer securing the flooring in place. EPDM rubber flooring is often installed outdoors. This is because it cures faster with better air circulation.
