Cement screeding is a process where cement is poured onto the floor to level the flooring. The purpose is to create a flat, uniform surface for further construction like tiles or wood flooring.
Cement screed primary material includes cement, water, and a bonding agent that holds all elements together, and levels the ground with an uneven height of at least 25mm.
Cement screed needs to be done before any flooring work however there are some exceptions. If the flooring is even and uniform, there will not be a need for the flooring. If it is hard flooring, such as tiles, there may be no need for cement screed work to be done if there is no hacking work before laying new flooring on top. However, that can only be confirmed after a site visit by a flooring specialist. Warranty for the flooring may not be covered by Singapore flooring companies if the cement screed advice is not heeded. This is because the flooring will be affected if the necessary screeding work is not done.
Uneven Flooring before cement screeding
If you have Luxury Vinyl Plank (LVP) or Luxury Vinyl Tiles (LVT) flooring for your HDB. It is flexible flooring which will result in the vinyl flooring following the flow of the floor.
If you have Stone Plastic Composite (SPC) flooring or tiles, there will be a hollow sound on the floor.
If you have a gym floor such as gym rubber mat or sports vinyl flooring, the flooring will follow the flooring underneath. With uneven flooring, it can be dangerous. The uneven flooring will result in a misstep, with a possibility of a fatal accident.
