Do I glue down My LVP flooring?
You bought new LVP flooring after finding out the advantages of LVP flooring. Working closely with your interior designers, and you found out that there are different installations.
There are 2 kinds of installation for LVP flooring. The floating installation and the glue-down installation. There are many good reasons to glue down your LVP flooring. The same applies to installing floating LVP flooring, too. What is the difference?
LVP Installation Method: Floating Installation
Floating Installation is the most common way to install your LVP flooring. Floating installation is common as it is less messy. The click-locking system secures it. It is installed more frequently in residential areas. The advantages of floating installation:
- It is quieter and softer underfoot. This is due to installing it on top of a subfloor. The subfloor acted as a cushion for your footing.
- It is cheaper and faster to finish the installation. A 5-room HDB flat is typically the size 110m², it will take about a working day with a 3-man team to finish installing.
You can easily fix the flooring because it isn’t glued down. This means you can remove it with little effort. Making it a lot more budget-friendly for maintenance.
LVT Installation Method: Glue-Down Installation
The glue-down installation, though less common, is usually recommended to retail stores. The retail store is expected to have a significant amount of foot traffic.
The advantages of a glue-down installation:
· As a glue-down installation requires a very prepared floor and it is glued down to the sub floor, it is more rigid. Thus, it will be more durable. Making this installation more suitable for constant foot traffic like a retail place.
· There is no need to prepare expansion gaps. Because it is glued to the floor; it becomes part of the subfloor. Thus, expansion follows the floor. Making no need for expansion gaps. When there is no need for expansion gaps, it will have a cleaner edge. This will discourage the need for skirting.
TL;DR: For homes, use floating installation for LVT flooring. For retail spaces, glue-down installation is better due to heavy foot traffic.
